The Honeymoon is over.

So, at long last we are returning from Tefka, (also known as Age 4), Mimi’s manager has been bugging her to return to the stage, and as much as I love Tefka I’ve started missing the Cavern. Also MD&C has been really hassling Steward to examine more Ages which he is unable to do with his Vahkphobia (the fear of Linking). So I gladly return, I intend on checking over some of Steward’s studies then off to Greenflower, I wonder how it’s holding up…

Good things…

Work on Age 4 is nearly complete, and it truly is beginning to feel like a home. The natives on this world are kind, generous, hardworking, and clever. I look forward to introducing them to the rest of the Cavern.

However step first must be made. While those who come to the Cavern are largely kind and open, some are not. The Gate must be finished in Age 4, with a lock that can only be opened from the inside. The safe in Age 1 is nearing completion as well, to open it you must understand the dangers it keeps safe.

I’ve largely ignored the Cavern of late much to Steward’s anger. But I have presented him with a few issues concerning the Hoods as well as a possible issue concerning the Silo. We were originally considering contacting the DRC but decided it was better to let them reestablish themselves then bother them with trivia we can find out ourselves.

Another positive note is that Subterranian Restorations seems to be back up and running. From what I have heard of them they should serve as a beacon helping to direct explorers restorations.

All and all good things are happening the Cavern seems to be gaining strength, I only hope nothing will try and stop this.

The work continues…

Work in Ages 1, 2, and 3 are still in preliminary phases Age 4 well that’s another matter all together but a good one at that.

So on one of my regular trips to the Surface I learned that I am no longer to be alone in the Cavern. They are sending Dr. Alfred Steward to the Cavern. He’s a good man, very smart, of course I’d never tell him that to his face. But I’m not sure why they are sending him. He’s not exactly an adventurous type. I also believe he may be afraid to Link !… I cannot get confirmation from headquarters, but if that is the case I’m going to have to do alot of leg work. May also have to open up my Journal to him when I’m away on other missions.  I’m sure this will be more of a benefit than a hinderance, but at the moment feels a bit more like the latter than the former.

Busy Busy, Busy

Haven’t had much time to catch my breath of late. Between studies on Greenflower, the discovery of a new Age, experiments and prototype work, as well as meeting new people I am exhausted. Thankfully I keep in touch with Mimi and she keeps me grounded. Although missing her has lead to a new project, a gift Age for her and possibly for our future. It’s just notes right now I have so much more to learn from the Guild of Writers before I can even delve into it. I think I need to start looking into recruiting, it would be nice to have a team or at least a partner. We’ll see.

The Pellucidar Project, and IIPs

So far the Pellucidar Project has been a complete success! All it took was a radar dish, two Prototype 3 KIs,  an old Radio, and some old telephone parts. The Radar dish picks up the radio waves from transmissions in the Cavern such as say The Cavern Today, it is translated to signal which is loaded into the KI I wired into it and transferred to the KI I wired into the radio and then returned to sound. I can now listen to The Cavern Today or any other Radio broadcast from there in any Age I am in! Maybe I should place one near the Cleft so I can listen to some Surface music as well. Some Rock would be nice.

Aside from the GW Radio the Pellucidar Project seems to be providing unexpected opportunities. After speaking with OHB the inventor or OHBot a remarkably advanced android. After speaking with him we came up with a monumental new project, IIPs which stands for Interactive Imager Projections.  The idea would be for OHB to design a big OHBot style supercomputer, and install a KI into it. Then rig up a bunch of Imagers with Audio pickups and some old Prototype 1 or 2 KIs so that way when an explorer talks to the Imager ( and it’s avatar) the Imager then converts the words into signal transfers them to OHBot Prime (the CPU thing) which then sends back the signal telling the Imager what to project as a response. This project will most likely not be as easy as it sounds. The GW Radio was one thing this is another thing entirely, it may also be difficult to wrangle the funds from Manifest Destiny as this does not exactly fall under protecting Earths interests , but I believe they will quite likely see the projects potential both in D’ni and on the Surface and be willing to invest. I’ll just have to deal with the stress if it fails… Hooo boy.

Er’cana

Most of us know the true purpose of Er’cana. The facility there was designed to create pellets that reinvigorate the Lake of D’ni which provides those living there with light and O2. Some of the best pellets for the lake algae give it a healthy orange glow. Some other pellet recipes cause some interesting side effects. One recipe for example causes the bacteria to cause the water to bubble and steam. These “steamer” pellets could be used as fuel for specially constructed generators which generate electricity via steam power. While this technology would only truly be useful for Age exploration I believe it is a technology worth implementing. I will provide the Company with the status of the Prototype MD Type S Generator as it develops

The second useful effect is that with certain recipes the pellets explode when in contact with the water. I need to study this to discover whether the pellet is reacting directly with the water, a chemical in the water produced by bacteria,  the bacteria itself, or some combination of all three.  At any rate EPDs  (Er’cana Pellet Demolitions) may be useful for future Exploration or Age restoration.

Gahreesen

The great service that Gahreesen provides is in the form of two pieces of technology, the KI and the Maintainer Suit. The KI is an amazing little piece of technology.  Inter-Age communication as well as all the features of your Average Cell Phone. I’ve been hunting for some of the tech to play with so I’ve been looking in D’ni’s Black Market.

While most of the Explorers eagerly upgraded their KI to the latest model some kept their old models and picked up new ones.  The primary KI’s I am purchasing are Prototype 3 through C-Class KI’s all of which have Inter-Age communication capabilities but don’t give off that nifty signal Laxman can track.  Prototype 1 and 2 may have uses as well but their exact uses are not yet determined.

Maintainer Suits, invulnerable armor to protect against any threat in an Age. While I doubt I will have the chance to abscond with one of the large EV suits at one point Explorers had access to smaller suits used in a training simulation known as the Wall. Some of these explorer managed to get the Suits back to their Reltos. As of right now these suits are not accessable so I will have to put some feelers out to see if I can find one of these illicit suits for my own explorations.

On a side note my regular visits of the Bevins/Hoods will be cancelled this week due to the fact I will be in NYC with my lovely fiance Mimi, enjoying a few days vacation from our respective Careers. It is so nice that a linking book or two and a plane ride are all that is keeping us apart right now. And if I can learn the Art then that distance should be shortened significantly.

Could this be the end…

of the Sustainability Project?  Of course not but it may be greatly accelerated. While checking some files with the Guild of Caterers I learned that they were working along with the D’ni Zoological Society to figure out foodstuffs that could be gleaned from all the Ages… I would send you the link but sadly at the moment I can’t find it. At any rate if I utilize their knowledge along with my own, the project can begin focusing on technological sustainability.

Speaking (writing?) about technology in case you have some other agents down here already my KI number is: 01632887.

At any rate I will keep in touch.

Sustainability Project Area 1: Teledahn

Location: The Cleft sitting in Zandi’s chair on a Bright Sunny day (I may be throwing out the location part of my Journals seeing as how it is so variable of late.)

Teledahn was the fourth Age I visited  and in many ways it is by far my favorite ( and not simply because Four is my favorite number),. It is so strangely alien and unique, and still so functional and useful! From what I have gathered Teledahn is a Food production Age at one point used by the Guild of Caterers. I believe with a minium of effort this Age could become that again. Spores could be gathered at the Primary Mushroom and ground (I would suspect they would need to be ground… May need to speak to the D’ni Zoological Society on that one.) in the Cleft using the millstones found there. Then add a bit of water and some heat and you have bread. While this would not completely alieviate the need to get supplies from the surface it would help to sow the seeds of self reliance. I wonder if Sharper had already thought of this but was moving in a different direction, setting up a still to make some ‘liquid bread’ Glowing Teledahn Beer would be quite the treat for his  Pub maybe with a side of glowing garlic knots or pretzels. Part of me hopes so, most likely the part realizing that a cold beer would be quite nice in the hot desert.

Day 16…17?

I’ve finally returned to the Surface. It took far longer than I suspected largely due to the fact that pillar that contained the link to the Cleft and a Book didn’t transliterate to my bookshelf on Relto till the Journey was completed. Yeesha can be a tricky little minx I suppose. What’s a Relto? That’s MY Age. The Book you sent to me, it comes with customizable pages… I’ve made mine quite homey I think. Back to the important issues. I’m sure you got a report of me meeting the Handler wearing strange garb and a Viking helmet, trust me I haven’t fallen off the deep end. Yeesha’s journey does have an impact.

I’ve always understood, that people are people no matter how they look, and also that absolute power corrupts absolutely. This Journey shows it first hand, its like travelling to Auschwitz and seeing the horror magnified. It also showed that while the D’ni… and Yeesha like most humans are basically good power corrupts and good intentions can pave the road to Hell.

Yeesha is an interesting case. She possesses power of a nearly unfathomable scale, and in the past it has corrupted her.  I do believe that she has learned from it. I believe she is wise, and I do trust her. I do not however do so blindly, she is mortal she is fallible and she does distance herself from us which I believe harms her understanding of us.

Concerning the mission; while I am working on completing Yeesha’s Shell Path I will begin City exploration for Books. I believe there are three locations that have the greatest likely hood to find the Ages we seek, and they are the Dock Area which has typically been stated as one of the poorer Districts and luckily with some rappelling gear easily accessable, K’veer, a rich district, which is not very accessable  that I know of at this time, and Garheesen the Maintainer Age, which may or may not be readily Accessable.

With the laptop with satellite link you’ve sent me I can send more regular updates and also information the Ages I have already travelled to and their connection to the Sustainability project.  On a side not I think I will no longer be recording the days between Teledahn, Eder Gira, and Cavern time just too confusing…
